At first glance, it may seem unnatural, unhealthy, and just plain strange. But visiting virtual beings, modeled after real people – alive OR dead – could become a major use case in Virtual Reality.
A South Korean short documentary and thought experiment, “I Met You”, shows the story of a mother reuniting with her deceases daughter – full of all the emotions one would expect from such a visit.
Three years after her 7-year old daughter died, this mother embraced the opportunity to reunite. This digital recreation took nearly a year to develop, including the implementation of a child actor, motion capture, haptic feedback and a wireless VR headset.
